When to Go
Experience the Cape West Coast’s seasonal wildflower display, where open landscapes come alive with colour as winter gives way to spring. What appears dry and understated for much of the year is suddenly transformed into a mosaic of blooms, spreading across fields, coastal plains, and roadside stretches in vivid waves of orange, yellow, pink, and white.
The Cape West Coast flower season usually reaches its peak between August and September, when visitors travel from across South Africa and abroad to see the annual bloom.
Depending on rainfall and weather conditions, the flowers may start appearing as early as July and can sometimes last into October.
For the best viewing, sunny days are ideal, as many wildflowers open fully in the warmth of the sun and closing again in cooler or overcast conditions. Late morning to early afternoon is the most ideal time to explore, when the flowers are at their most vibrant and the landscape reveals its full colour.
